While I don't really think Christmas itself is stupid, I do grow tired of it by Thanksgiving every year. It seems the holidays are not as peaceful as the Christmas Carol would suggest. The new year in many ways brings peace. Life becomes normal again at least to some degree. A new year brings many things most of them I am looking forward to.
New challenges. I like most challenges. This year I am looking forward to getting my broken 35 year old body in better shape. I am looking forward to skiing some deep powder, the kind I haven't had the opportunity to ski in about six years (that was when I hurt my knee), I am looking forward to Elk Hunting in 10 months (for the first time). Challenges are not always pleasant, but they usually bring growth. New solutions bring additional wisdom and additional wisdom brings success.
I am also looking forward to my kids continuing to grow up and learn through there own challenges, developing some momentum in our ministry, new friends, and all of those things. I am looking forward to another year with my beautiful wife!!
A new year brings new life in some ways, but only Jesus brings THE new life. I look forward to growing in Him.

I am very happy that you have clarified the 'stupid' of Christmas. I have been upset as an adult about how stupid people get about it also.
Every year I fight the pressure to spend too much. I fight the urge to compete with my grandchildren's other grandparents, and and other extended family. I also fight the pressure to buy really 'stupid' stuff! Come on, get something that is reasonably good for the child!
I love what the 'other grandparents' have done for my oldest granddaughter. A couple of years ago they bought her and 'American Girl' doll. Now this year she received, (for the doll and for her) matching, pretty night gowns! She loves it and it is not junky toys. I will bet that she will keep that doll forever! And in the future, she will receive more for her and the doll.
Am I jeolous that I didn't do that? I have to admit it! Am I going to try to compete with it? Absolutely Not! I am happy for my granddaughter, and it is wonderful they could do that. I do not think that they do that out of competition either. That tells me that the pressure that I feel to do or buy more, truely is put upon me by my self.
I just need to remember that we are celebrating the birth of Christ! If I am ever unable to buy any gifts at all, it need not dampen the joy of the season.
Until Then,
Katie
